PROGRAM AREAS
The intent of the Thomas and Jeanne Elmezzi Foundation is to exist in perpetuity and to fund only charitable [501 (c) 3] not for profit organizations that are of significance to Thomas and Jeanne Elmezzi and embody their beliefs and intentions.

It is the intent of the founder(s) to concentrate the majority of grant making in the five boroughs of New York City, and the Tri-State area.

Until date, the foundation's grantmaking has been concentrated in the following areas:

Youth Development: The Foundation funds efforts to improve the services available to children and youth in the tri-state area, from preschool to high school. To this end the Foundation funds programs at non-profit community-based agencies, and institutions of higher education that offer children, youth and their families' additional academic and social support, in-school and after school.

Medical Research: The Foundation's medical research grants are made predominantly at the North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System Foundation to advance the field of medical research and eventually make new breakthroughs in healthcare accessible to all, especially the disadvantaged.

Life Enhancement for the Elderly: Currently, the foundation makes grants for programs that bridge intergenerational relationships as well as provide care for the elderly.

Special Programs: Through its special grants program, the Foundation is able to respond to project requests and meet significant needs outside of the Foundation's principal program areas such as grants to local community organizations or churches. Under this area, the Foundation has provided some emergency relief funding post September 11th. Also, in response to certain situations and needs, the foundation has made grants to various organizations domiciled in Mexico.

Education : The foundation recognizes the need to improve the quality of education available to low-income and disadvantaged populations in New York City public schools. Tom Elmezzi was fortunate to rise above his challenges (socio-economic) and be successful. However, there are thousands of students who are not as fortunate. Therefore, the foundation has recently embarked on an initiative to improve the lives of public school students. We are currently in the process of developing a grade 6 - 8 public school in New York City in partnership with the Urban Assembly, Inc.
